CHIO Aachen CAMPUS 2023 - These are the highlights of the coming months

From Michaels-Beerbaum, to Kittel and Schneider, through to the Niebergs – the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS holds numerous attractive training and educational offers with some of the top riders and trainers in the world in store again this year.

The CHIO Aachen stands for first-class equestrian sport, quality and internationality. Whereby, the showgrounds at the Aachen Soers are not only a very special place during the show, thanks to the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS they are now also a permanent and year-round centre for the international equestrian sport. In 2023, participants can once again look forward to exciting formats and outstanding offers focusing on youth promotion, training, education and digital innovations. “Our vision is to support the development of the equestrian sport at all levels and performance classes,” explained Stefan Knopp, Director of the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS. “In this way, we strive to give all riders the opportunity to continually improve with some of the most famous coaches and with the aid of cutting-edge analysis technology – at probably one of the best equestrian sport sites in the world.”

The offer ranges from courses, to training camps and training days, through to preparation shows and training sessions on the equestrian sport simulator. The exclusive series of courses for ambitious amateur riders which features clinics with the master of riding, Dorothee Schneider, (July 10th-12th), with Sweden’s dressage star Patrik Kittel (August 21st-23rd) and with the team World and European Championships gold medallist Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum (August 2023) deserve a special mention here. A further highlight is the masterclass of Gerrit and Lars Nieberg on December 11th. Together with his father Lars, the team Olympic gold medallist of the years 2000 and 2004, the sensational winner of the Rolex Grand Prix in Aachen in 2022 will provide valuable insights into the general, everyday training routine, directly after the Aachen Jumping Youngstars (December 7th-10th).

After the great response in 2022, there is going to be training days for amateur riders with a “full-service” offer again this year, which not only entails a training analysis with a famous equestrian sport celebrity, but also first-class health and fitness tips for the horse and rider. The first two dates for the two disciplines dressage and jumping are already scheduled: on May 6th and 7th, as well as on July 29th and 30th. These will be enhanced by further high-quality seminars and workshops, such as the photo workshop with the world-famous equestrian sport photographer Arnd Bronkhorst (May 6th and 7th), the #neuland Congress (June 28th), the 3rd CHIO Aachen Hackathon (November 8th-10th) as well as the popular holiday camps and pony weekends for the youngest equine fans. And the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS also offers great opportunities for people, who don’t belong to the Aachen catchment area. In the scope of the project CAMPUS on Tour, a team from Aachen will be setting off to the facilities of different riding clubs throughout the whole of Germany again this year to provide an exclusive training offer with the renowned jumping coach, Lars Meyer zu Bexten. The application phase for the first dates from May 22nd-26th, has already started.

The “Equestrian Stable Manager” certification programme that is being conducted jointly with the RWTH International Academy is brand-new. The internationally aligned, extra-occupational educational programme, offers a top opportunity for future equestrian stable managers. Moreover, thanks to its Programme of Excellence, the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS is also a melting pot for aspiring international riders. In the third year of the programme, young talents will be taught everything they need to know in order to gain a firm foothold on the top international sports circuit. In the course of six training phases, the talents profit from the know-how and skills of the two Head Coaches, Isabell Werth (Dressage) and Jos Lansink (Jumping). This will be rounded off by valuable tips on fitness, diet, equine and stable management, training control and career planning. The next CHIO Aachen CAMPUS Programme of Excellence commences in the autumn of 2023. Applications are already being accepted.
